NCAA Transfer Portal Update: Texas, Florida State, Georgia Make Big Additions

Over the past week, the Texas Longhorns, Florida State Seminoles and Georgia Bulldogs made some big additions through the college baseball transfer portal.

Former LSU Tiger Ashton Larson commits to Texas
Ashton Larson has committed to the Texas Longhorns after two seasons in Baton Rouge playing for the LSU Tigers.

In 180 career at-bats, Larson has a .289 batting average, .406 on-base percentage, 12 doubles and 28 RBIs.

He was part of the 2024 SEC All-Freshman Team and a member of LSU’s 2025 national championship squad.

This summer in the Cape Cod League, Larson is playing for the Chatham Anglers and has a .263 batting average in 57 at-bats. He was named a Cape Cod League All-Star.

Former USC right-hander Brodie Purcell commits to Florida State

USC right-handed pitcher Brodie Purcell is heading to Tallahassee to play for Florida State after two seasons with the Trojans.

The 2024 season was a breakout year for Purcell. He posted a 2.11 ERA in 42 2/3 innings with 51 strikeouts and held opponents to a .177 batting average.

Purcell was used primarily as a closer for the Trojans. He recorded four saves this season against Indiana, San Diego State, Ohio State and Loyola Marymount.

Purcell’s performance out of the USC bullpen earned him second-team All-Big Ten honors.

Former Stanford pitcher Joey Volchko commits to Georgia

The Georgia Bulldogs added pitcher Joey Volchko through the transfer portal.

Joey Volchko and Tanner Thach Enter the Transfer Portal

After two seasons with the Stanford Cardinal, Volchko has a career 5.89 ERA in 113 innings. He has recorded 109 strikeouts and 72 walks against 529 batters faced.

Volchko became a full-time starter in his sophomore season at Stanford.

The right-hander brings significant potential to Athens for the 2026 college baseball season. He was named a preseason All-American by Baseball America and Perfect Game.
