New York Mets Double-A Affiliate Gets New Nickname

Minor league baseball names are as creative as they come, and another new name is being added to that list.

The New York Mets’ Double-A affiliate, the Binghamton Rumble Ponies, will play two games in 2025 under the new nickname “Bathtub Donkeys.”

On the Rumble Ponies’ website, it says the inspiration to make this move came from the Hartford Yard Goats, the Double-A affiliate of the Colorado Rockies.

The Yard Goats were rebranded as the Bouncing Pickles. The name was inspired by a law stating that if a pickle did not bounce, it was not edible.

There is a similar concept with the Bathtub Donkey name. The inspiration comes from the law that states that donkeys cannot sleep in bathtubs.

Baseball fans will see Binghamton take the field branded this way on Saturday, June 28, against the Portland Sea Dogs and Wednesday, July 30, against the Harrisburg Senators.
