The New York Mets signed Dominican right-handed pitcher Jose Marte to a two-year minor league contract on Thursday, April 3, according to Robert Murray of FanSided.

Marte’s MLB.com profile listed him as having signed a minor league contract with the Mets on April 1, before Murray reported the deal was for two years.

The Mets also signed right-handed pitcher Adbert Alzolay to a two-year minor league contract back on January 24 and is recovering from Tommy John Surgery.

Marte elected free agency on November 4, 2024, before signing with the Mets. As of now, he has not been assigned to Triple-A Syracuse.

Marte, 28, is from Santiago, Dominican Republic, and pitched in four Major League seasons with the Los Angeles Angels from 2021 to 2024.

In 2024, Marte split time between Triple-A Salt Lake and the Angels before landing on the 60-day injured list on August 30 with shoulder soreness, which developed during rehab from a viral infection.

Marte appeared in 14 relief outings for the Angels in 2024, going 0-0 with a 2.33 ERA over 19.1 innings. He allowed 14 hits, five earned runs, one home run, 10 walks, 14 strikeouts, and recorded a 1.241 WHIP.

With Triple-A Salt Lake, Marte went 4-2 with a 2.22 ERA and eight saves over 25 relief appearances. He struck out 33 batters and walked 13 in 28.1 innings, while allowing 19 hits and one home run for a 1.129 WHIP.

Across four Major League seasons, Marte has pitched in 39 games, all in relief, with a 0-1 record and a 5.56 ERA. In 43.2 innings, he has given up 40 hits, 27 earned runs, seven home runs, 38 walks, 41 strikeouts, and owns a 1.786 WHIP.
