The New York Mets signed Panamanian outfielder Jose Ramos to a minor league deal, which includes an invite to Major League camp, according to SportsNet New York on November 25.

According to Stephen Parello of RisingApple.com, Ramos’s contract is listed at $30,000.

The Mets have not yet updated their transaction page on acquiring Ramos.

The 24-year-old right-handed slugger from Chepo, Panama, elected free agency from the Los Angeles Dodgers on November 6, prior to him signing with the orange and blue.

Ramos spent his time between Double-A Tulsa and Triple-A Oklahoma City during the 2025 season.

Between both levels, Ramos played in 102 games and batted .251 with 411 plate appearances, cracking 91 hits, 14 doubles, three triples, 18 home runs, 59 RBIs, four stolen bases, 39 walks, 129 strikeouts, and a .782 OPS.

In the 2024 season, Ramos was ranked at No. 29 in the Dodgers organization Top 30 list from MLBPipeline.com.

Ramos played in 124 games in the 2024 season with Double-A Tulsa, and hit .221 in 506 plate appearances, 98 hits, two triples, 19 doubles, two triples, 17 home runs, 64 RBIs, swiping seven bases, 57 walks, 172 strikeouts, and a .697 OPS.

Ramos has played in the professional ranks since he signed as an international free agent to a minor league contract with the Dodgers on July 3, 2018.

During Ramos’ six seasons in the minor leagues since his rookie professional season in the Dominican Summer League with the Dodgers in 2019, he has played in 581 games with a lifetime average of .254 in 2,478 plate appearances, collecting 548 hits, 107 doubles, 14 triples, 92 home runs, 374 RBIs, 33 stolen bases, 250 walks, 727 strikeouts, and a .783 OPS.

Ramos Experience With Panamanian National Team From World Baseball Classic

Ramos played in four games of the 2023 WBC and slashed .313/.353/.500 in 16 at-bats, scoring five runs, pounding five hits, one home run, one RBI, drawing one walk, and striking out five times.

Jose Mayorga will manage the 2026 WBC team for Panama and will have on his coaching staff bench coach Julio Mosquera, hitting coach Einar Diaz, assistant hitting coach and former MLB player Carlos Lee, bullpen coach Bruce Chen, third base coach Lino Diaz, first base coach Raul Dominguez, quality control coach Luis Caballero and 2008 World Series champion Carlos Ruiz as an advisor.

Panama Announces 32-Man Preliminary Copa América Roster

Panama is currently ranked at No. 8 in the World Baseball Rankings, published by the World Baseball Softball Confederation.

Panama will play in San Juan, Puerto Rico, at Hiram Bithorn Stadium and will go up against host nation Puerto Rico, Cuba, Canada, and Colombia from March 6-11 in Pool A.

Last WBC in 2023, Panama went 2-2 in Pool A in Taichung, Taiwan, at Taichung Intercontinental Baseball Stadium against Cuba, Italy, host nation Chinese Taipei and the Netherlands. Panama ended up with the same record as all the other Pool A participants and did not qualify for the quarterfinals due to the Total Quality Balance run differential rule from the WBSC.

Panama has played in the WBC in 2006 and 2009 prior to them qualifying for the 2023 event.

Panama qualified for the 2023 WBC on home soil at Estadio Rod Carew in Panama City in September 2022 and went 2-0 to beat Argentina and Brazil to enter the field.

Panama went 3-2 in the 2024 Premier12 event in Group A and ended tied for second place with the United States and did not advance to the Super Round at the Tokyo Dome due to head-to-head implications and losing to the red, white and blue on November 12 at the Coloso del Pacifico in Tepic, Mexico.

In the history of the nation’s success in international senior events, Panama lost in the bronze medal game of the 2023 Pan American Games to Mexico 10-2 during their last international senior event.

Panama has only won two gold medals at the 1997 and 2010 Central American Games in the history of their nation at international senior events.

Panama’s Scouting Outlook For 2026 WBC

Panama’s roster can be similar to 2023 in the 2026 event this upcoming March.

Ramos can be in the mix with the majority of Panama’s roster returning from the 2023 WBC with Jahdiel Santamaria, Jose Caballero, Erasmo Caballero, Christian Bethancourt, Allen Córdoba, Luis Castillo, Jhonny Santos, Joshwan Wright, Jonathan Araúz, Rubén Tejada, and Edgar Munoz that can suit up for Panama in Pool A.

New offensive additions with Edmundo Sosa, Johan Camargo, Leo Jimenez, Ivan Herrera, Miguel Amaya, Rodrigo Orozco, Eduardo Tait, and Enrique Bradfield Jr. can be a big help for Panama’s roster for the 2026 WBC.

Possible pitching returners and additions with starters and relievers that can be on Panama’s roster are Javy Guerra, Alberto Baldonado, Enrique Burgos, Miguel Gomez, Kevin Rodriguez, Bryan Caceras, Kevin Miranda, Dario Agrazil, Gilberto Chu, Harold Arauz, Severino Gonzalez, Davis Romero, Alberto Guerrero, Jaime Barria, Humberto Mejía, James Gonzalez, and Paolo Espino.

Certain players listed above also participated in the Premier12 event this past November and can have a high outlook for FEDEBEIS officials to play on their roster in 2026.

FEDEBEIS under president Jaime Raul Robinson Villanueva will have to scout among other players to be with the Panamanian national team during the 2025 seasons across other professional leagues in Japan with Nippon Professional Baseball, the Korean Baseball Organization, the Chinese Professional Baseball League in Taiwan, the Liga Mexicana de Béisbol, the 2025 Beisbol Mayor spring season, and the 2025-26 Panama ProBeis regular season outside the other winter leagues in the Caribbean and Australia in order to build a strong roster for Pool D during the 2026 WBC.

Demaso Espino, general manager for Panama, will be a big key component to help build their roster for the 2026 WBC since he is an international scout for the St. Louis Cardinals.
