The Double-A Somerset Patriots announced that New York Yankees designated hitter Giancarlo Stanton will begin his rehab assignment on Tuesday, June 10 against the Boston Red Sox affiliate, Portland Sea Dogs at 6:35 p.m. EDT at TD Bank Ballpark in Bridgewater, N.J.

The 35-year-old right-handed slugger from Panorama, Calif., landed on the 10-day injured list with right and left elbow epicondylitis suffered during spring training on March 26. He was transferred to the 60-day injured list on May 1.
Stanton helped the Yankees win their 41st American League pennant before they lost to the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 2024 World Series in five games. He played in 14 games in the 2024 postseason and batted .273/.339/.709 over 55 at-bats, scoring nine runs, with 15 hits, three doubles, seven home runs, 16 RBIs, six walks, and 11 strikeouts.
In the 2024 season, Stanton played in 114 games and hit .233 with 459 plate appearances, posting a 0.7 WAR, with 97 hits, 20 doubles, 27 home runs, 72 RBIs, 38 walks, 143 strikeouts, and a .773 OPS, while helping the Yankees win the AL East title with a 94-68 record.
He also missed time during the 2024 season, landing on the 10-day injured list on June 23, 2024 with strained left hamstring. He was reactivated on July 29, 2024.
Stanton’s 2023 season consisted of playing in 101 games with 415 plate appearances, batting .191, 71 hits, 13 doubles, 24 home runs, 60 RBIs, 41 walks, 124 strikeouts, and a. 695 OPS, while the Yankees finished in fourth place with a 82-80 record, missing the postseason.
Stanton has played in 15 seasons in MLB with the Florida/Miami Marlins from 2010-17 until he was acquired from the Yankees on Dec. 11, 2017 with cash considerations in exchange for Starlin Castro and minor leaguers Jorge Guzmán and José Devers.
Stanton has played in 1,649 career games with 44.9 WAR in 6,896 plate appearances, hitting .257 with 1,551 hits, 305 doubles, 11 triples, 429 home runs, 1,103 RBIs, swiping 42 bases, 776 walks, 1,963 strikeouts, and a .871 OPS.
Stanton is a five-time All-Star, appearing in 2012, 2014, 2015, 2017, and 2022 All-Star Games, won the National League MVP Award in 2017, won the American League Championship Series MVP in 2024, a pair of Silver Slugger Awards in 2014 and 2017, won the NL Hank Aaron Award in 2014 and 2017, and led the NL in home runs in 2014 and 2017 and in RBIs in 2017.
The Yankees front office and manager Aaron Boone will have to evaluate the depth of the designated hitter role once Stanton is back,
In Stanton’s absence, Ben Rice has put up quality numbers as the Yankees’ designated hitter, appearing in 56 games in the 2025 season and batting .241 in 218 plate appearances, with 46 hits, 11 doubles, one triple, 12 home runs, 25 RBIs, 19 walks, 50 strikeouts, and a .825 OPS.
Stanton played in the World Baseball Classic for the United States in 2013 and helped the nation win their first title in 2017 under Hall of Fame manager Jim Leyland. Stanton could be a key component for the red, white, and blue offense under manager Mark DeRosa if he can stay healthy for the rest of the 2025 season and be available to play from March 6-11 for the 2026 event. The U.S. will play in Pool B in Houston, Texas, at Daikin Park against Mexico, Great Britain, Brazil and Italy.
