The New York Yankees have promoted their No. 2 prospect Spencer Jones to Triple-A Scranton. Jones will join the RailRiders after putting up great statistics in Double-A Somerset.

Jones was drafted by the Yankees out of Vanderbilt University in the first round of the 2022 MLB Draft when the Yankees made the outfielder the 25th overall selection. Jones enrolled at Vanderbilt as a two-way player, but eventually he settled in as an outfielder for Tim Corbin’s squad. Jones played three seasons in Nashville, with his final season being his most productive, as he hit 12 home runs and had an OPS of 1.103 before Vanderbilt was eliminated in the NCAA Regional round by Oregon State.
After college, Jones signed for $2.88 million and has steadily risen through the ranks of the Yankees’ minor league system. After ending the season in Double-A last year, Jones improved drastically in his start in Double-A this season. In 49 games, he hit 16 home runs and possessed a slash line of .274/.389/.594. He did this while playing all three outfield positions, primarily center field, without committing a single error.
Jones has also impressed in his Spring training appearances with the Yankees in Tampa. Over 37 games in the span of three Spring Trainings, dating back to 2023, Jones has a .323 batting average and has driven in 12 runs.
While Jones is not ranked a Top 100 prospect by MLB, he is the Yankees No. 2 prospect in their system behind only MLB’s No. 38 overall prospect, George Lombard Jr. The 24 year-old outfielder could be a September call-up when the rosters expand, given his powerful bat and defensive ability. Many eyes will be on Jones and how he performs in Triple-A for the remainder of 2025.
