Nicaragua Names Preliminary Roster for Central American and Caribbean Games

Nicaragua has announced its preliminary roster for the Central American and Caribbean Games. The baseball tournament will be held from July 31 to Aug. 7 at Estadio Quisqueya Juan Marichal in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. Eight teams will compete: Colombia, Cuba, Curaçao, the Dominican Republic, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, and Puerto Rico.

Nicaragua’s roster is primarily made up of players from the country’s Germán Pomares Ordóñez League. The squad features 14 players who represented Nicaragua at the 2026 World Baseball Classic in March. It also includes several players hoping to earn a spot on Nicaragua’s roster for future international tournaments.

One of those players is right-hander Stanling Orozco. The 24-year-old previously represented Nicaragua at the U-23 Baseball World Cup and has now earned another call-up to the senior national team. Orozco is coming off a breakout season with Matagalpa in the Germán Pomares League, where he captured the pitching Triple Crown. He led all qualified pitchers with a 1.40 ERA, 14 wins and 90 strikeouts. He also tied for the league lead with six complete games and three shutouts. After an impressive winter-ball campaign, Orozco carried that success into the domestic season and is expected to be one of Nicaragua’s top starters during the tournament.

Infielder Milkar Pérez returns to the national team after previously making Nicaragua’s roster for the 2023 World Baseball Classic. He did not appear in either the 2025 WBC qualifiers or the 2026 tournament. Pérez spent six seasons in the Seattle Mariners organization, reaching High-A Everett in 2025, where he hit two home runs with a .622 OPS before being released following the season.

Since returning to Nicaragua, Pérez has been the standout hitter in the Germán Pomares League for Indios del Bóer. He leads the league with a 1.490 OPS and 52 walks, making him the only player with more than 30 walks in fewer than 50 games. He has also hit seven home runs, driven in 37 runs and recorded seven triples. Pérez is expected to be one of Nicaragua’s most dangerous hitters during the tournament.

Nicaragua will be seeking its first baseball medal at the Central American and Caribbean Games since 2014 and is expected to field one of the tournament’s strongest rosters.
