The New York Mets took down the Washington Nationals 19-5 on Monday, and Brandon Nimmo etched himself in Mets history with a 4-for-6 game with nine RBIs.

Nimmo tied the franchise record for RBIs in a game with his grand slam off of Cole Henry in the seventh inning. He tied Carlos Delgado for the most RBIs in a single game set, which Delgado in 2008 against the New York Yankees.

Nimmo also became the first player since Shohei Ohtani’s 6-for-6, three homer, 10 RBI performance on Sept. 19, 2024 of last season to have at least nine RBIs in a game. A year ago, Ohtani put together a 6-for-6 game while also becoming the founding member of the 50-50 club, hitting his 49th, 50th, and 51st homers in the 20-4 Los Angeles Dodgers win over the Miami Marlins. Additionally, according to MLB.com‘s Paige Leckie, Nimmo became the first player since Sammy Sosa in 2022 to record nine RBIs in a three-inning span.

Nimmo fell a triple short of the cycle, but still had a historic game. The Mets franchise record for total bases in a single game is 16, achieved by Edgardo Alfonso in 199. Nimmo totaled 11 against the Nationals.

The MLB record for RBIs in a single game is shared by Jim Bottomley and Mark Whiten, who each drove in 12 runs in one game. Bottomley achieved the feat for St. Louis against the Brooklyn Robins on Sept. 16, 1924 ,while Whiten tied the mark while playing for St. Louis on Sept. 7, 1993, against the Cincinnati Reds, in a game where Whiten also became the 12th player in Major League history to hit four homers in a single game.

Nimmo came into Monday’s game against Washington slashing .192/.239/.337 with four home runs on the year. He is now hitting .218 with a .679 OPS.
