During Florida State’s opening weekend sweep of James Madison in Tallahassee, Noah Sheffield, the son of former major leaguer Gary Sheffield, recorded his first collegiate hit.
During Sunday’s 10-0 run-rule win the Seminoles had over the Dukes, Sheffield got a pinch-hit at-bat in the bottom of the eighth inning. He hit a single into left and advanced his teammate Max Williams over to third base.
It was the first at-bat of his career in Tallahassee.

Coming out of high school, Sheffield was a top 25 player from Florida and a top 50 shortstop across the country. He was also named a high school All-American by Perfect Game.
His father, Gary Sheffield, played 22 seasons of Major League Baseball and was a nine-time All-Star. He also won five silver sluggers and was a member of the Florida Marlins 1997 World Series championship team.
The Seminoles, along with Sheffield, will be back in action on Tuesday night in Tampa. They will have a road game for their mid-week matchup against the South Florida Bulls. The first pitch at Red McEwen Field is scheduled for 5 p.m. E.T.
