North Carolina Defeats Virginia Tech 10-4, Caden Glauber with a Great Relief Outing

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – On Friday, May 22, the North Carolina Tar Heels won their ACC Tournament game over the Virginia Tech Hokies 10-4. The win for the Tar Heels allowed them to move on to the semifinal round of the tournament.

North Carolina head coach Scott Forbes talked about the big win for his team.

“We came through with a lot of big innings,” Forbes said. “With our players, I try to stay out of their way and let them take care of business.”

Jake Schaffner had a big day at the plate

Jake Schaffner was one of the leaders for North Carolina against Georgia Tech offensively. He had two hits, a double and a triple, and led the Tar Heels with four RBIs.

Owen Hull also had a big day for North Carolina. He had two hits and three RBIs.

As a team, North Carolina had 10 hits. A big four-run eighth inning ended up seperating themselves from Virginia Tech late in the game. Macon Winslow hit a two-run home run for the Tar Heels to cap off that big inning.

Glauber pitches great in relief for the Tar Heels

After North Carolina starter Jason DeCaro pitched 3 1/3 innings, ACC Freshman of the Year Caden Glauber came in to replace him in relief. Glauber pitched the remaining 5 2/3 innings of the game, striking out six Virginia Tech hitters. He allowed just one earned run and only three hits as well.

This season, Glauber has a 1.93 ERA and 80 strikeouts in 70 innings of work. He has also allowed an opposing batting average of .179 and has recorded four saves.

Glauber earned the win during North Carolina’s ACC Tournament win over Virginia Tech. It moved his record this season to 9-0.

Up next for North Carolina

The North Carolina Tar Heels will await the winner of Florida State and Pittsburgh to see who they will play in the semifinal round.

The game is at 3 p.m. ET at Truist Field on Saturday, May 23.
