ATHENS, Ga. – On Sunday, November 2, the Georgia Bulldogs faced off against the West Georgia Wolves in a fall exhibition game at Foley Field. The two teams played 18 innings against each other.
Here are some observations that World Baseball Network made about Georgia during the game.
Joey Volchko started for Georgia against West Georgia. In two innings, he allowed no hits and no runs. He also added a strikeout to his final stat line.
Volchko transferred to Georgia from Stanford for the 2026 season. In two years with the Cardinal, he had a 5.89 ERA and 109 strikeouts in 113 innings of work.
In his third season in Athens, Volchko looks to be a standout in the Bulldogs’ starting rotation.
A home run came early in the game for Georgia by way of catcher Daniel Jackson.
In 2025, Jackson had 14 home runs and 36 RBI. He was a major contributor to the Bulldogs’ massive team home run total of 144.
Georgia led the country in home runs a season ago, with several players reaching double figures in long balls.
Jackson also had a two-run double in the sixth inning of the exhibition.
Kolby Branch hopped in on the long ball action with a home run in the fifth inning of the exhibition game.
It was a three-run, opposite-field home run that extended Georgia’s lead out to 14-1.
In 2025, Branch had a breakout season with a .300 batting average, a .392 on-base percentage, 13 home runs, and 41 RBI.
During the exhibition game against West Georgia, the shortstop also had a base hit and a double. This left him a triple shy of the cycle for the first nine innings.
In the second set of nine innings, Bryce Calloway came alive for Georgia. In the 10th and 11th innings of the exhibition, he had an RBI single, a bases-clearing double, and a triple.
Calloway is another incoming transfer player Georgia got this season. He played for the New Orleans Privateers in 2025 and had a .390 batting average. Calloway also hit 18 home runs and had 63 RBI.
The transfer player can also pitch. In 2025 with New Orleans, he posted a 4.26 ERA and 23 strikeouts in 25 1/3 innings of work.
Calloway is one of the best players in one of the best incoming transfer portal classes in college baseball.
Throughout the exhibition, senior infielder Ryan Black showed off some great defense with many assists to first base.
In 2025 with Georgia, Black had 55 putouts, 48 assists, zero errors, and a 1.000 fielding percentage.
Black was also a threat with his bat. In 2025, he had a .276 batting average, seven home runs, and 18 RBI.
