OF Jake Marisnick Signs Minor League Deal With Los Angeles Angels

Outfielder Jake Marisnick signed a minor league contract with the Los Angeles Angels on Wednesday, the organization announced on their transaction page of the teams website. 

Marisnick, 32, was born in Riverside, Calif. and has played 11 seasons in Major League Baseball during his professional career with eight teams, and will be in camp with the Angels as a non-roster invite during Spring Training. 

During the 2022-23 offseason, Marisnick elected free agency from the Atlanta Braves on Nov. 10, 2022, and signed a minor league contract with the Chicago White Sox on Jan. 10, 2023. 

Last season, Marisnick split his time between the White Sox, Detroit Tigers, and the Los Angeles Dodgers, playing in 46 games with 83 plate appearances, batting .237 with 18 hits, three doubles, two triples, two home runs, 10 RBI, three walks, 21 strikeouts, and a .688 OPS. 

The White Sox traded Marisnick to Detroit for cash considerations on May 30. He elected free agency on July 13 prior to him signing with the Dodgers the next day. 

Marisnick also played with Triple-A Oklahoma City in the Dodgers organization and Triple-A Charlotte with the White Sox organization in 2023, apperaing in 41 games and batting .267 with 32 hits, nine doubles, two triples, two home runs, 17 RBI, nine stolen bases, 19 walks, and 33 strikeouts. 

Marisnick made his MLB debut on July 23, 2013, with the Miami Marlins and spent two seasons with the Marlins from 2013-14 before playing for the Houston Astros from 2014-19, the New York Mets in 2020, the Chicago Cubs in 2021, and the San Diego Padres in 2021. In 2022, Marisnick played in 31 games with the Pittsburgh Pirates, batting .234.

In his 11 MLB seasons, Marisnick has played in 877 games with a lifetime average of .228 over 2,246 plate appearances, with 469 hits, 96 doubles, 15 triples, 65 home runs, 223 RBI, 81 stolen bases, 119 walks, 671 strikeouts, and a .666 OPS. 

Marisnick adds depth to the Angels outfield, which currently includes Taylor Ward, Mickey Moniak, and Jo Adell on their depth chart at the corner outfield positions.  

The Angels will open spring training against the Dodgers at home at Tempe Diablo Stadium at 3 p.m. EST on February 24.
