On Friday, February 13, the Oklahoma Sooners dominated the Texas Tech Red Raiders 10-3 to win their first game of the season in the 2026 Shriners Children’s College Showdown.
Tockey and Gambill Ignite the Oklahoma Offense with Home Runs Against Texas Tech
After scoring no runs in the first four innings, the Sooners finally broke through in the fifth. Camden Johnson got the scoring going as he ran home during a double play for the Red Raiders. This tied the game at 1-1.
After Johnson’s run, the home runs started to fly for Skip Johnson’s team.
Dayton Tockey hit a two-run home run for Oklahoma in the sixth inning to make it a 3-1 game.
Trey Gambill also hit a two-run home run in the eighth inning. This gave the Sooners a 5-2 lead.
Sooners Shut the Door with a Five-Run Ninth Inning
Holding a 5-3 lead entering the ninth inning, Oklahoma proceeded to shut the game down. Jaxon Willits got the scoring going with an RBI knock to make it a 6-3 game.
After that, Brendan Brock hit Oklahoma’s third home run of the game. It was a grand slam that gave the Sooners a 10-3 lead. Brock’s grand slam would be the final nail in the coffin as the Sooners went on to beat Texas Tech.
Up Next for Oklahoma and Texas Tech
On Saturday, February 14, the Oklahoma Sooners will play their second game of the year at Globe Life Field against the Oklahoma State Cowboys. That game is at 4 p.m. EST.
After their loss against the Sooners, Texas Tech will face off against the Vanderbilt Commodores at Globe Life Field on Saturday, February 14. That game is at noon EST.
