Oklahoma State Flexing Power during the Shriners Children’s College Showdown

ARLINGTON, Texas- The Oklahoma State Cowboys got their first win of the season in the Shriners Children’s College Showdown on Saturday. They defeated the Louisville Cardinals by a score of 12-3.

A common theme from Oklahoma State’s first two games has been home run hitting. As a team, the Cowboys have hit five home runs to start the season.

In the first game against Clemson, shortstop Avery Ortiz and left fielder Donovan LaSalle both had a home run in their 6-5 losing effort.

The contagious long ball hitting would work in the Cowboys’ favor on Saturday against Louisville.

Oklahoma State found themselves losing 3-0 in the fourth inning. First baseman Colin Brueggemann launched a grand slam into right field to instantly give the Cowboys a 4-3 lead.

This would lead to two more home runs from Oklahoma State. Ortiz hit his second one of the tournament to extend the lead. Arkansas transfer Jayson Jones got in on the action and hit his first one wearing a black and orange uniform.

Oklahoma State head coach Josh Holliday had this to say about the home run hitting postgame and how it went along with the blowout win over Louisville.

“You saw the at-bats get better and the personalities loosen up a little bit. Then there’s more relaxation…they [the players] build off each other and get better.”

Oklahoma State will end the 2025 Shriners Children’s College Showdown Sunday night against the Texas Longhorns. The first pitch for that game is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. C.T.
