Ole Miss RHP Cade Townsend with Mild Inflammation in his Shoulder, Recovery Ruled to be Day-to-Day

Ole Miss Rebels right-handed pitcher Cade Townsend received MRI results on his shoulder.

According to Ole Miss head coach Mike Bianco, Townsend’s MRI results were clean and showed mild inflammation in his shoulder. Bianco went on to say that Townsend will begin rehabilitation and recover on a day-to-day basis.

The MRI stemmed from the Rebels’ game against the Texas Longhorns on Saturday, March 14.

After one inning of work, Townsend was removed from the mound for precautionary reasons. The Rebels went on to lose that game to Texas, 11-2.

Townsend and his career with Ole Miss

Townsend is in the midst of his sophomore season for the Rebels.

In 2025, during his freshman season, he had a 6.35 ERA in 34 innings of work. Townsend also had 43 strikeouts over that stretch and allowed a .228 opposing batting average.

In 2026, Townsend shifted into the Rebels’ starting rotation on weekends and has excelled.

In 19 ⅔ innings of work and five starts, he has a 0.92 ERA and 32 strikeouts. He has also allowed an opposing batting average of just .169 and has two wins credited to him against Ohio State and Evansville.

Up next for Ole Miss

The Ole Miss Rebels have a 16-5 overall record this season and are 1-2 in Southeastern Conference (SEC) play.

Their next game is Tuesday, March 17, against the Austin Peay Governors. The game is at 5 p.m. EST and is at Swayze Field in Oxford, Miss.
