The Italian American Baseball Foundation (IABF) is proud to announce the appointment of Major League Baseball (MLB) executive Omar Minaya to its Advisory Board.

Minaya’s experience playing in Italy in the 1980s, combined with his decades of experience in scouting, player development, and leadership, will further the Foundation’s mission of promoting the growth of baseball and softball in Italy.

“I have been impressed that IABF has made significant progress in its mission and looks forward to enhancing the work being done in Italy,” Minaya said. “My time playing in Italy was special, and this provides an opportunity to get back to my roots from an important time in my life. This organization stands for the values I cherish – family, culture, and the pursuit of excellence through baseball.”

Minaya brings over three decades of baseball leadership to the advisory board. He broke barriers as the first Hispanic General Manager in MLB history with the Montreal Expos and later led the New York Mets through multiple competitive rebuilds. More recently, he has served as an MLB front-office advisor, leveraging his expertise in scouting and player development, and is currently with the New York Yankees as a special assistant to the baseball operations department.

“Omar’s credentials speak volumes,” said Joe Quagliano, President and Co-Founder of the Italian American Baseball Foundation. “He not only elevates the game with his baseball wisdom, but he also embodies the cultural pride and community focus at the heart of our Foundation.”
