No. 8 Stanford 2, No. 2 Oregon State 1 – Stanford’s pitching held Oregon State to just three hits, and the Cardinal got single runs in the fourth and fifth innings to top the Beavers and earn a spot in Friday’s semifinals at the Pac-12 Baseball Tournament.
Malcolm Moore homered in the fourth, knocking his third big fly of the event, and Ethan Hott doubled in a run for Stanford in the fifth.
Freshman Joey Vochko threw six shutout innings for Stanford, walking four and striking out nine despite struggling with his command, throwing only 55 strikes in 107 pitches. He allowed a triple in the first inning to OSU’s Gavin Turley and an infield single in the sixth to Brady Kasper.
Oregon State loaded the bases in the third, but Vochko fanned Kasper to end the frame.
Oregon State will face Arizona State on Thursday at 1 p.m. EDT, while Stanford is off Thursday and will await their semifinal opponent.
No. 7 Utah 4, No. 3 Oregon 2 – After falling to Utah in their Pac-12 Tournament opener Wednesday afternoon, the Oregon Ducks will have to win three games in a row to defend their title from last year.
Utah knocked 14 hits in the game and got seven innings of four-hit ball from Bryson Van Sickle, who allowed two runs, struck out six, and walked one.
Matt Flaharty’s single in the bottom of the seventh gave Utah the 4-2 lead, with Kaden Carpenter and TJ Clarkson coming in to score.
Merit Jones came on for the Utes and closed out the win, retiring the side in order in the eighth and ninth and strikin gout three to earn a six-out save.
For Oregon to advance, they would need to beat Southern California tomorrow afternoon. If they do, all three teams in Pool C would be tied with 1-1 records, and Oregon would advance by virtue of their higher seed.
No. 1 Arizona 6, No. 9 Washington 5 – The Arizona Wildcats won their Pac-12 Tournament opener 6-5 over Washington, sending the Huskies home.
Mason White’s three-run homer in the third inning gave Arizona a 4-2 lead, and he and Brendan Summerhill each added RBI singles in the sixth to give the Wildcats a 6-2 lead.
Washington battled back, getting a run in the sixth and a pair in the bottom of the ninth to cut the lead to 6-5 when Braeden Terry grounded out to second, allowing Dylan Osborne to score, and Aiva Arquette’s RBI single to left sent Sam DeCarlo scampering home.
With the win, Arizona advances to Friday’s semifinals, where they will play an opponent to be determined. Washington ends the season with a 19-31-1 record.
