The 2025 college baseball season for the South Carolina Gamecocks came to an end at the SEC Tournament in Hoover, Ala., following an 11-3 loss against the Florida Gators.
Shortly thereafter, on Wednesday, Jordan Kaye of The State Newspaper confirmed that head coach Paul Mainieri will remain in Columbia for the 2026 college baseball season.
It was also revealed that the coaching staff from this season will remain the same for 2026.
This move comes after possibly the worst season in South Carolina baseball history. The Gamecocks finished the year with a 28-29 overall record and were a measly 6-24 in SEC play.
The team won just one SEC weekend series all season when they played Ole Miss from April 17-19.
The six conference wins all season is the lowest conference win total South Carolina has had since 1969, when they played in the Atlantic Coast Conference.
The Gamecocks are going to miss out on the NCAA Tournament this season after making the field in back-to-back years in 2023 and 2024. In 2023, they went to a super regional in Gainesville, Fla. after making it out of their own hosted regional in Columbia.
Important Offseason Incoming for Mainieri and the Gamecocks – This lackluster season makes this offseason for Mainieri a vital one with a make-or-break year coming in only year two coaching at South Carolina.
The Gamecocks have already seen some roster turnover, as right-handed pitcher Roman Kimball is entering the transfer portal. The redshirt junior had been with the South Carolina program for three seasons.
