PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Cristopher Sánchez ran his consecutive shutout innings streak to before allowing a run and earned the win after J.T. Realmuto and Kyle Schwarber homered in the seventh inning, leading the Philadelphia Phillies to a 3-2 victory over the San Diego Padres on Wednesday night.
Jhoan Duran worked a scoreless ninth for his 14th save.
Sánchez’s streak ranks as the third-best overall dating to the start of the Live Ball Era in 1920 behind the Los Angeles Dodgers’ with a record 59 straight scoreless innings in 1988, and Don Drysdale with 58 in 1968. With a scoreless first inning against the Padres, Sánchez topped Hall of Famer Carl Hubbell’s mark of 45 1/3 in 1933 for longest by a left-hander.
Sánchez (7-2) breezed through six scoreless innings against the Padres before allowing a two-out double in the seventh to Ty France. Sánchez allowed an RBI single to lefty-swinging Jackson Merrill that scored France and accounted for the only run he allowed since the end of April.
Sánchez stood on the mound and finally cracked a smile and fidgeted with the bill of his cap after a nearly minute-long standing ovation from 40,453 Phillies fans. He finished with eight strikeouts.
Sánchez last allowed two runs in the first inning of a 3-2 victory over the Giants on April 30.
Sánchez got the run support he needed for the win in the bottom of the seventh when Realmuto and Schwarber hit solo homers off Padres reliever Jason Adam (2-1) to make it 3-1.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) — Troy Melton allowed only two runs over a career-long eight innings, Dillon Dingler drove in four runs and Detroit finished off a three-game sweep of Tampa Bay.
Detroit scored 25 runs on 19 extra base hits in the three games at Tropicana Field. The road sweep for Detroit is the first since last July at Cleveland.
Tampa Bay has dropped eight of the past 10 games. The Rays’ lead in the AL East dropped to 0.5 games heading into Wednesday night.
Melton, making his third start of the season after beginning the year on the 60-day disabled list with right elbow inflammation, held the Rays to four hits while striking out five in eight innings on 94 pitches. Melton retired the final 17 batters he faced. Drew Anderson retired the side in the ninth.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Max Meyer allowed two hits in seven innings, and Joe Mack hit a tiebreaking two-run single in the eighth to lift Miami to a win over Washington and a three-game sweep.
Meyer (6-0) is unbeaten in 13 starts this year, tying the franchise record to start a season set by Livan Hernandez in 1997. He allowed a run and two walks with seven strikeouts.
With the bases loaded and two outs in the eighth, Mack lined a single to right-center field off Clayton Beeter (1-1) to put Miami up 3-1. Calvin Faucher worked the bottom of the eighth for the Marlins, and Pete Fairbanks finished for his seventh save in nine chances.
It’s been a streaky stretch for the Marlins, who lost three in a row, won four and lost five before their current run of three straight wins.
Esteury Ruiz homered in the second to give the Marlins a 1-0 lead, but the Nationals tied it in the third. With the bases loaded and one out, shortstop Otto Lopez — playing in a bit — wasn’t able to handle a grounder up the middle by Dylan Crews. Everyone was safe and Lopez was charged with an error.
Curtis Mead followed with another grounder to Lopez, who this time started a double play to end the inning.
After a walk and a wild pitch to start the fifth, Washington second baseman Nasim Nuñez pulled off a risky move when he threw to third on a grounder up the middle. It was in time to retire Connor Norby, and the call was upheld after a review.
