Pitching the Name of the Game in the 2025 College World Series

Teams are starting to get eliminated in the 2025 College World Series. Through the games that have been played, pitching has been the top story, with some massive performances from multiple starters.

Gage Wood’s Historic No-Hitter Against Murray State

With the Arkansas Razorbacks facing elimination, Gage Wood stepped up in the biggest way he could.

He threw the third no-hitter in College World Series history. It was the first time it has happened since 1960.

While allowing no hits, Wood also threw 19 strikeouts, breaking Ty Floyd’s previous record for strikeouts in a game that was set at 17.

Wood was close to pitching a perfect game as well. Unfortunately, that bid was erased as he hit Murray State second baseman Dominic Decker.

Nonetheless, the 119-pitch performance goes down as one of the best pitching performances in college baseball history. It also kept the Razorbacks alive as they defeated Murray State in the game, 3-0.

Jacob Morrison Shines for Coastal Carolina Against Oregon State

The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers are in the driver’s seat. They are 2-0 in the 2025 College World Series after wins against Arizona and Oregon State.

Against Oregon State, Sun Belt Pitcher of the Year Jacob Morrison played a huge role in getting the Chanticleers in the good position they are in.

In 7 2/3 innings against the Beavers, Morrison struck out seven batters while allowing just one earned run.

The Chanticleers’ ace also did not walk anybody in his start against Oregon State.

With this start, Morrison not only put Coastal Carolina in the best position possible during double elimination play, but he also cemented himself as one of the best pitchers in college baseball.

LSU’s Kade Anderson Shuts Down Arkansas in Tigers’ First Game in Omaha

The LSU Tigers won a big-time matchup against the Arkansas Razorbacks to open the College World Series. In a 4-1 win, LSU starting pitcher Kade Anderson was the big story.

In seven innings of work, Anderson struck out seven Arkansas hitters. While doing this, he allowed just three hits, one earned run, and walked only two hitters.

After being credited with the win, the LSU ace’s record moved to 11-1 on the season.

Anderson has moved himself into a top-ten draft pick position in the MLB draft this summer. MLB.com’s Jonathan Mayo has him projected second overall in his most recent mock draft.
