The Cape Cod League kicked off action last week, consisting of 10 teams. The Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox, the Chatham Anglers, the Harwich Mariners, the Orleans Firebirds, and the Brewster Whitecaps are in the East Division. The Hyannis Harbor Hawks, the Cotuit Kettleers, the Wareham Gateman, the Bourne Braves, and the Falmouth Commodores are in the West Division.
This is a wooden bat league, and the All-Star game is scheduled for July 19, with a live broadcast on NESN Nation at 4 p.m. ET. The regular season consists of 40 games, and each team plays five games against their division opponents and four games each against the opposite division.
Two Hitters to Watch
Brewster Whitecaps infielder Daniel Cuvet, 20, is a right-handed hitting third baseman at the University of Miami, and he just completed his sophomore season. Cuvet has been a standout in two seasons with 42 home runs, which is seventh on the Miami Hurricanes’ all-time list. Phil Lane is the Hurricanes’ all-time leader with 62 home runs. This season, Cuvet had 18 home runs, 84 RBI, and a slash line of .372/.450/.708 in 226 at-bats.
In his freshman season in 2023-2024, he set the Hurricanes’ single-season freshman record with 24 home runs. He was also named Freshman All-American by NCBWA, D1Baseball, Perfect Game, and Baseball America.
Wareham Gateman outfielder Ty Dalley, 21, is a left-handed hitting outfielder at Mercer, and he just completed his junior season. He led Mercer this season with 19 home runs, 61 RBI, and 144 total bases. His slash line this season was .273/.352/.588 in 281 at-bats. His career numbers are 58 home runs, 188 RBI, and a slash line of .284/.369/.627 in 659 at-bats.
Dalley broke the school record when he hit his 57th career home run on May 11, 2025, against Virginia Tech at English Lane Field. He passed Tre Smith, who had held the record since 1983.
Two Pitchers to Watch
Hyannis Harbor Hawks left-handed starting pitcher Trey Beard, 20, just completed his sophomore season at Florida Atlantic. He broke out this season with 118 strikeouts in 86 innings, posting an ERA of 3.45. The best start of the season came on February 28 against Fordham when he struck out 12 batters in six innings without allowing an earned run at FAU Baseball Stadium.
Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox right-handed pitcher Ryan Bilka, 21, just completed his junior season at Richmond. He pitched for Wagner his first two seasons and transferred to Richmond before this past season. His numbers were 62 innings, 57 strikeouts, and an ERA of 2.18 this season. His career numbers are 171 innings and 150 strikeouts, and his ERA is 3.16.
Managerial Notebook
Jarrod Saltalamacchia and Denis Cook are among the notable managers in the Cape Cod League who were also former players.
Saltalamacchia will manage the Falmouth Commodores. He played 12 MLB seasons from 2007 to 2018 and won the World Series with the Boston Red Sox in 2013.
Cook will manage the Chatham Anglers. He was a left-handed pitcher and he pitched 15 MLB seasons from 1988-2002. His most notable accomplishment was winning the World Series with the Florida Marlins in 1997. He was also named the manager of Team Poland in 2024.
