On Tuesday, the Portland Pilots won their mid-week matchup against the Seattle Redhawks 8-0. The shutout came thanks to a perfect game by starting pitcher Ryan Rembisz.
It is the first perfect game in the history of Portland’s baseball program.
The performance from Rembisz is the second win of his season. He struck out 12 Seattle U batters throughout the full nine innings of the game. He was also able to accomplish the feat in just 89 total pitches.
Portland’s win improved its record to 3-5 on the season. It was a good bounce-back win after Saturday’s loss to the Creighton Blue Jays.
Plenty of other mid-majors have had pitchers that have accomplished perfect games in the history of college baseball.
In 2022, there were two pitchers from mid-major schools who did it. Fairfield’s Jake Noviello and Grambling State’s Shemar Page accomplished perfect games in 7-inning outings with games that ended in run rules.
Before that, East Carolina’s Jake Kuchmaner threw one against Maryland back in 2019.
Rembisz’s performance is the first of its kind in the 2025 season. Portland’s next game will be against the Utah Tech Bison on Feb. 28 at home in Joe Etzel Park. The first pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. EST.
