Preseason ‘Serie del Tequila’ Between Charros de Jalisco, Leones del Escogido Cancelled

Less than a week from the opening pitch, the Serie del Tequila, a winter ball preseason series that was to pit the two finalists at the 2025 Caribbean Series against each other, has been cancelled.

The Serie del Tequila, scheduled for Oct. 4-5 at Estadio Panamericano in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, was cancelled abruptly on Tuesday, citing multiple factors.

We reiterate our commitment to offering top-level sporting events and strengthening the bonds of friendship between Mexico and the Dominican Republic in the field of professional baseball,” the Serie del Tequila organizing committee said in a release circulated by the Charros de Jalisco.

Among the factors is the lack of approval of an agreement between the Confederacion de Beisbol Profesional del Caribe, the organization that oversees the four major winter leagues, and Major League Baseball. With no agreement, there are difficulties in obtaining permission to play and medical insurance for players signed to contracts with MLB organizations in the games.

For the Charros, multiple players who played the summer season with Jalisco’s Liga Mexicana de Beisbol franchise are also unavailable.

Recent heavy rain in the greater Guadalajara area and an event at Estadio Panamericano have also prevented the Charros and the local government from getting the stadium ready for the series.

The organizing committee for the Serie del Tequila said that tickets already purchased will be refunded or applied towards 2025-26 LAMP regular season games.
