The Puerto Rico Women’s Baseball League best-of-three semifinals are set to open on Sunday, November 30.
The regular-season winners, Utuado Tainas, the team that will continue the dynasty of the 13-time champions, Arecibo Lobas, will host the Vega Alta Maceteras. Las Piedras Artesanas will host the first-year Santa Isabel Ponys in the other series.
Utuado and Las Piedras advanced to the semifinals after placing on top of the regular season standings.
Vega Alta came from behind to defeat Juana Diaz Poetas in a best-of-three preliminary series. Juana Diaz won a close first game, 4-3, but solid pitching led Vega Alta to consecutive wins, 5-1 and 3-1, and the semifinals.
The first-year Santa Isabel swept their series against Guayama Estrellas del Guamanì, 7-4 and 5-3.
The Baseball Federation of Puerto Rico (FBPR) announced that Klara Irizarry (Juana Diaz Poetas) earned the season’s Best Hitter Award. Irizarry went 24-for-41, posting a .585 batting average.
