The Stetson Hatters have a big-time weapon entering 2025. It is Yohann Dessureault from Trois-Rivieres, Quebec, entering his senior season in DeLand, Florida. His efforts throughout his career with the Hatters have led him to be a very versatile player, and he has developed nicely as Fall practices are approaching for next season.
In 2023, Dessureault gained some experience as a utility player during his sophomore season, playing second and third base and outfield in both left and right field at certain points. It seems that experience paid some dividends in 2024, as his defense was the best it had been yet, with his highest fielding percentage during his three-year career so far.
He also improved greatly at hitting this past season. He reached career highs in batting average (.293), hits (67), home runs (11), and RBI (41). His power and knack for scoring runs via himself or his bat with runners in scoring position evolved this past season.
Stetson was known for pulling off some upsets in mid-week games this past season. They did this to two Florida teams: the Florida Gators (February 27) and the Florida State Seminoles (May 14). During the upset win over Florida State, Dessureault had his best game of this past season, going 4-4 with two solo home runs and scoring three total runs.
It’s performances like this one that make him a key component in Stetson’s competitiveness, not only against mid-majors in the Atlantic Sun Conference but also against some of the bigger teams they play on occasion in the state of Florida.
It is vital that the Hatters get a contributor like that back in the clubhouse. Now, Dessureault is in his senior season with three years under his belt, including a very winning past season that saw Stetson win the A-Sun Tournament and even get a win within last season’s NCAA tournament against a tough Alabama team. This kind of experience with a good player now in a leader-like role is what Stetson needs to repeat similar success from 2024 to 2025.
