RECAP: United States Veterans Game Against Industriales de La Habana

The United States Veterans game against the Industriales de La Habana team was this past weekend, on January 11, at Estadio Latinoamericano in Havana, Cuba.

JIT.Cu, the Cuban government media news outlet, was the only source that stated the Industriales de La Habana team won 9-0 over the United States veterans team.

The announcement that the United States veterans team will play the Cuban Revolutionary Armed Forces veterans team at Estadio Latinoamericano in Havana, Cuba, from January 11-12 at 10 a.m. EST, the Federación Cubana de Béisbol y Softbol was reported on January 7.

The United States veterans team, Expo Maine, participated at the Veterans event at Estadio Latinoamericano.

The Cuban team was also listed with upcoming players, Serie Nacional veterans, and retired players who were part of the Cuban Military Service.

Yoandry Urgellés of the Industriales de La Habana had four hits on Saturday and was interviewed on JIT.Cu on January 11.

Fredd Lipp of Expo Maine was also interviewed on JIT.Cu on January 11.

Industriales de La Habana pitcher Frank Javier Menendez threw five innings against the Expo Maine offense.

Both teams stood between the first and third base line for their national anthems before the start of their exhibition game on January 11.

No other news was listed from Sunday, January 12, if another game was played between the Expo Maine and the Industriales de La Habana.

The players that will be for the Cuban Veterans Team also played in the historic anniversary game of the first statistical game on on December 27, resulting in the Club Habana team blanking the Cocodrilos de Matanzas 6-0 at Estadio Palmar de Junco in Pueblo Nuevo, Matanzas, Cuba.

The 150th official statistical anniversary game was played with retired Serie Nacional players and current Serie Nacional players. Some coaches were active and on coaching staffs’ of Serie Nacional teams and also were former coaches that participated in the event a few weeks back.

The players that will play the eight positions except on the mound for the Cuban Veterans team are: Frank Camilo Morejón, Antonio Scull, Alexander Malleta, Rey Vicente Anglada, Joyse Sú, Ernesto Sánchez, Yoandry Urgelles Cobas, Irakly Chirino, Leonardo Castrazana, Ernesto Morilla, José Antonio Soto, Miguel Ángel Yanes ,Pedro Medina, Rodolfo Puente, Antonio Acea, Heriberto Corbea, and José Elosegui and Andrés Moya.

Pitchers that might make an appearance over the weekend for the Cuban Veterans team are: Lázaro De La Torre, Wilber Pérez, Frank Javier Menéndez, Rene Espín, Jorge Fumero, Jorge L. Váldez, and Lázaro Valle.
