On July 29, relief pitcher Peyton Huff announced his commitment to play for the Sam Houston Bearkats for the 2026 college baseball season.

The Plano, Texas native talked about what made Sam Houston the right fit for him for his junior season.

“Coach [Jay] Sirianni,” Huff stated. “When we met and I went down there for my visit, it really felt like he wanted me there. I went to a lot of Power Four schools, and it was kind of like I was just another guy.”

The relief pitcher added, “Coach Sirianni made it clear — you have a spot here, we want you here, we’re going to develop you more. It gave me a sense of home.”

Huff’s Breakout Sophomore Season at Southern

In 2025, Huff had a breakout season for the Southern Jaguars with a 4.28 ERA and 36 strikeouts in 27 1/3 innings of work.

The right-hander also had four saves during his recent season with the Jaguars. This was one of the highest save totals by a single pitcher in the SWAC.

This great 2025 season led to Huff being a candidate for the SWAC Reliever of the Year award. He ended being named second-team All-Conference.

The former Southern reliever went into what went well for him in 2025.

I focused on getting in the strike zone more,” Huff said. “My coach really gave me confidence on the mound — you don’t have to pitch with an ‘X’ on your back. Go out there carefree and do what you’ve been doing all your life.”

Huff also talked about what it meant to receive an all-conference nomination.

“At the start of the year, I didn’t think second team all-conference was even in play,” Huff said. “I just wanted to improve. The improvement I made was big, so I was ecstatic when I heard I made second team all-conference.”
