Sad news occurred this week in Hawaii baseball as long-time team broadcaster Don Robbs passed away at 88 on Thursday.
Robbs was known as the “Voice of Rainbow Baseball” and called over 2,000 Hawaii games throughout his career.

Robbs moved to Hawaii in the 1960s and began working in TV and radio. In the 1970s, he began to call Rainbow Warrior baseball games.
He witnessed the rise and excellence of Hawaii baseball at its best. The Rainbow Warriors reached the NCAA Tournament 13 times, including a trip to the 1980 NCAA College World Series, where Hawaii advanced to the final before losing to Arizona.
Robbs was also crucial in getting Hawaii athletics a radio partnership with KKEA. This station is now known as ESPN Honolulu.
Robbs retired from broadcasting Hawaii baseball games in 2016. In March 2024, the press box at the Rainbow Warriors’ ballpark, Les Murakami Stadium, was named after him. It is now known as the Robbs Leahey Press Box.
World Baseball Network sends our best wishes and condolences to Hawaii baseball and Robbs’ family.
