Report: 2026 Baseball Champions League Americas Will Be Held In Mexico City In Late March

The Baseball Champions League Americas will return to Mexico City in late March, and will again be hosted by the Diablos Rojos del Mexico, the defending BCL Americas champions and two-time defending champions of the Liga Mexicana de Beisbol.

Horacio de la Vega, the LMB president, confirmed the return of the WBSC Americas event, which is tentatively scheduled for the week of March 23, in an exclusive interview with Mexican journalist McCoy Galvan of PonPausa.com at a press conference in Mexico City on Wednesday. The Diablos Rojos will return to the event to defend their title, along with teams from Venezuela, Cuba, the United States, and, for the first time, a team from Asia.

I’ve always said, has the potential for gradual growth, and [this year’s BCL] will have representation from outside of the Americas as well, and will have a solid and significant impact with competitive teams from Asia,” de la Vega said in Spanish in a video interview posted by PonPausa. “We are very proud that we were the pioneers, the ones who innovated, who created this project, and that other countries have already expressed interest in participating. I’m sure we’ll give it the time and space it needs to grow, and it will be an extremely successful project in the future.”

The first Baseball Champions League Americas was played in Merida, Yucatan, Mexico at Parque Kukulkan Alamo in September 2023, featuring the champions of the LMB, Cuba’s Serie Nacional, the Liga Beisbol Profesional Colombiano, and the independent American Association from the United States. Led by former Major League Baseball catcher Chris Coste, the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks of the American Association won the first BCL Americas title, beating the Caimanes de Barranquilla of the LBPC 8-0 in the championship game.

Last year, the Diablos Rojos del Mexico took the second BCL Americas title at Alfredo Harp Helu, beating the Lenadores de Las Tunas 6-1 in the championship game. The 2025 event featured six teams, with the champions of Puerto Rico’s Liga Superior Doble-A, Curacao’s Double-A league, and Nicaragua’s Campeonato German Pomares joining the Diablos and champions of the American Association and the Serie Nacional.

Venezuela will participate, which we haven’t had before. Cuba will participate, which has participated in the past, as has the United States,” de la Vega said in the interview with PonPausa. “Of course, the Diablos, along with the champions of various leagues worldwide.”
