The Titanes del Caribe exhibition series will return to New York City in November. It will pit the Dominican Republic’s Aguilas Cibaenas against the Tigres del Licey in three exhibition games at Yankee Stadium.
Enrique Rojas and Juan Arturo Recio broke the news for ESPN Deportes late Thursday.
Last November, the two teams that play in LIDOM, the Dominican Republic’s winter league, squared off for three games at Citi Field, the home of the New York Mets of Major League Baseball. The report indicated that the 2024 event will be played Nov. 8-10 at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, the home of MLB’s New York Yankees, with the winning team splitting a prize pool of $25,000.
The Titanes del Caribe series will be put on by Latin Events, a company that includes Hall of Famer David Ortiz as an investor. According to the report by ESPN Deportes, Latin Events has put up $2.35 million for the rights to hold the event in New York City and has to post a payment of $400,000 by August 15 to book charter flights for the two teams from the Dominican Republic to New York.

Rojas and Recio noted that Latin Events will be responsible for securing a lease at Yankee Stadium for the series and providing transportation and hotels for the teams that are comparable in quality to those offered by MLB teams.
Latin Events will retain the broadcast rights to the series outside the Dominican Republic, while LIDOM and the teams will produce merchandise. Latin Events will get 30% of the profit. The two teams would also be able to produce their own merchandise using the logos of LIDOM and the two teams.
LIDOM will get a net 3% of all ticket sales for the event.
The Aguilas Cibaenas won the 2023 Titanes del Caribe series at Citi Field, sweeping the series against the Tigres del Licey. In 2023, the games did not count in the LIDOM standings, and the report from ESPN Deportes indicated that the 2024 series will also consist of exhibition games.
The Tigres del Licey, based in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, are the defending LIDOM champs and advanced to the championship game in the Caribbean Series each of the last two years. Known as “El Glorioso,” the club has won 24 LIDOM titles and 11 Caribbean Series titles since its founding in 1907
The Aguilas Cibaenas, based in Santiago de los Caballeros, have won 22 LIDOM titles and six Caribbean Series titles, capturing both most recently in 2021 when they defeated the Criollos de Caguas in Mazatlan, Sinaloa, Mexico.
