Robinson Canó signs with the Diablos Rojos of the Mexican Baseball League

MEXICO CITY (AP) — Former major league second baseman Robinson Canó has signed with the Diablos Rojos of the Mexican Baseball League, the Mexico City club announced Friday.

The 41-year-old Canó finished with 1,306 RBIs, fourth all-time among second baseman, in a 17-year career, most of which he spent with the New York Yankees and Seattle Mariners. The eight-time All-Star also played for the New York Mets and San Diego Padres and last played in the big leagues in 2022, with Atlanta.

The Diablos Rojos (Red Devils) did not disclose the terms of the contract.

Canó will have a chance to play against the Yankees, who are set to play two exhibition games against the Diablos Rojos in Mexico City on March 24-25. The Dominican native played his first nine seasons for New York and was part of the Yankees’ most recent World Series-winning team in 2009.

The Diablos Rojos are the winningest team in Mexican baseball with 17 titles.

Canó played the 2023-24 season with Estrellas Orientales in the Dominican Republic and played in the Caribbean Series.
