On Friday, February 27, Texas starting pitcher Ruger Riojas delivered an awesome start for the Texas Longhorns in their 8-1 win over the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers.
Riojas had 11 strikeouts in five innings of work. Over that same stretch, he allowed only one hit, one walk, and gave up no runs.
In 16 total innings of work, Riojas now has 30 total strikeouts. He is towards the top of the Southeastern Conference in strikeouts this season.
With a season ERA of 1.13, he has been a huge part of Texas having one of the best team ERAs in the country.
Riojas in 2025 with Texas
In 2025, Riojas transferred to Austin to play for the Longhorns after two seasons with the UTSA Roadrunners.
In 2025, with Texas, he had a 5.61 ERA in 69 innings, with 62 strikeouts. He finished with a 9-3 record on the mound.
Riojas also got valuable starter experience for the Longhorns. He made 10 starts in 2025.
This, in turn, helped him prepare for 2026 as he has found his way into the Texas starting rotation.
