This past weekend, Arkansas Razorbacks catcher Ryder Helfrick suffered an injury to his groin in an exhibition game against the Little Rock Trojans.
The injury occurred when a foul ball bounced up and into Helfrick. After taking an at-bat in the game with the injury, he ended up going to the emergency room and had an MRI done.
The next day, Arkansas head coach Dave Van Horn gave an update to the media. This came after the Razorbacks’ exhibition game the following day against the Dallas Baptist Patriots.
“It looks like he just has a little laceration down there,” Van Horn said. “If there is a rupture there, you are talking about surgery. It was about as close as you can get to that, I think, without having to have it. His spirits are good, and he was upbeat last night.”
The 2025 college baseball season was Helfrick’s sophomore season with Arkansas. He broke out with a .305 batting average, a .420 on-base percentage, and a 1.036 OPS.
The catcher from Discovery Bay, Calif. also had 10 doubles, 15 home runs, and 38 RBI.
He helped lead Arkansas to a 50-win season that included a trip to the College World Series in Omaha. He is set to be a key returner for the Razorbacks in 2026.
Helfrick also spent some time this summer playing for the USA Collegiate National Team in a series against Japan.
In game four of the series, he recorded an RBI. Helfrick made two total starts at catcher for Team USA during the series.
