The Seattle Mariners promoted Cuban outfielder Lazaro Montes, their No. 2 prospect on MLBPipeline.com, to Double-A Arkansas from High-A Everett on June 23.

Montes, a 20-year-old left-handed hitter from La Habana, Cuba, is ranked No. 32 on MLBPipeline.com’s Top 100 list. He signed with the Mariners during the international signing period on January 15, 2022.
In 67 games at High-A Everett this season, Montes hit .268 with 67 hits, 12 doubles, five triples, 18 home runs, 50 RBI, three stolen bases, 48 walks, 83 strikeouts, and a .959 OPS across 301 plate appearances.

Montes was invited to spring training on January 30 as a non-roster invitee. He appeared in 12 games during the 2025 Cactus League season, batting .278/.435/.667 with five hits, two home runs, seven RBI, five walks, and eight strikeouts over 18 at-bats.
Last season, Montes split time between Low-A Modesto and High-A Everett, batting .288 with 129 hits, 21 doubles, 105 RBI, and a .881 OPS in 117 games.
He was named a Dominican Summer League Mid-Season All-Star in 2022, California League Player of the Month in August 2023 and May 2024, and a Baseball America Rookie All-Star in 2023.
Over four minor league seasons, Montes has played in 310 games, hitting .286 with 319 hits, 65 doubles, 14 triples, 62 home runs, 257 RBI, 13 stolen bases, and a .945 OPS across 1,368 plate appearances.
The Arkansas Travelers will begin a six-game road series against the Amarillo Sod Poodles, the Arizona Diamondbacks’ Double-A affiliate, on Tuesday, June 24 at 8:05 p.m. EDT at Hodgetown Stadium in Amarillo, Texas.
