Sebastian Walcott Discusses Potential WBC Participation

With the 2026 World Baseball Classic approaching, both major and minor leaguers are being asked about their potential participation. One of those players is MLB Pipeline’s No. 9 overall prospect, shortstop Sebastian Walcott.

The 19-year-old from Nassau, Bahamas, is eligible to play for Team Great Britain due to The Bahamas’ status as a former British colony. Great Britain featured several Bahamian players in the last edition of the WBC, and that trend is expected to continue in 2026.

When asked this week about the possibility of playing for Great Britain, Walcott said:

“It’s been in the works. We’re still talking. If it comes down to that, I might be in the WBC.”

Walcott would be a major addition to a Great Britain team that surprised many during the last WBC. Despite being heavy underdogs, they were competitive against powerhouses like the United States and Mexico, and upset Colombia to earn a spot in the 2026 tournament. This time around, they could be even more dangerous—and Walcott would be a key reason why.

Currently in Double-A, Walcott is slashing .249/.348/.402 with 8 home runs. He’s having one of the most impressive seasons by a 19-year-old position player at that level in the past 15 years. His wRC+ of 113 ranks seventh among 19-year-olds in Double-A since 2010. If he suits up for Great Britain, he’d be one of the most exciting and impactful players in their lineup.

Other notable names who could join Walcott on the 2026 roster include Yankees infielder Jazz Chisholm Jr., Mariners catching prospect Harry Ford, Cubs minor leaguer BJ Murray Jr., and Diamondbacks outfield prospect Kristian Robinson.

While Great Britain will likely enter the tournament as underdogs once again, their growing pool of young talent could make them a team to watch. With Walcott in the fold, they just might be ready to turn some heads on the global stage.

Great Britain will open the 2026 World Baseball Classic on March 6 against Mexico. It may just end up being their most crucial game of the tournament and they got it immediately. They’ll also be playing the United States, Italy and Brazil in Houston in Pool B.
