The Serie de Las America tournament has ended, with Panama winning it all. Following their win, the all-star team and MVP have been released.
MVP –
Emanuel Trujillo was crowned tournament MVP after his incredible performance. Trujillo slashed an incredible .571/.625/1.500 in the opening round. Six of his eight hits were for extra bases as he hit three home runs, two doubles, and one triple. Trujillo would also rack up nine RBIs in the opening round. He would not stop in the knockout rounds as he would record another home run. His three home runs and nine RBIS would lead the Serie De Las America tournament.
All-Star team –
Andy Vargas (Pitcher)
Andy Vargas was almost unhittable in his two appearances, as he would help lead Cuba to the Semi-Finals. In those appearances, he would throw for 7.1 scoreless innings, only allowing three hits while striking out 10 batters.
Ray-Patrick Didder (Right Field)
Outside of Emanuel Trujillo, Ray-Patrick Didder was the best hitter in the entire tournament. The Curacao right fielder was an on-base machine the whole tournament, as he would slash .526/.606/.947. Didder recorded 10 hits through six games, hitting two home runs and driving in eight runs while also walking four times. His .526 average would hold up as the top batting average in the entire tournament.
Chase Dawson (Center Field)
Chase Dawson was one of the players who helped lead the balanced Nicaraguans to the finals. He was as consistent as they came during those seven games, slashing .320/.469/.360. He recorded eight hits and three RBIs while also walking seven times.
Yunieski Larduet (Left Field)
Cuba relied on timely hitting in their run to the Semi-Finals, and they were led by Yunieski Larduet, who slashed .478/.538/.478. He would record 11 hits in six games, all singles. He would also reach base another three times thanks to one walk and two HBP.
Phildrick Llewellyn (Catcher)
Curacao was an offensive powerhouse throughout the tournament, and their catcher, Phildrick Llewellyn, was always in the middle of it. In six games, he slashed .400/.400/.53 while racking up six hits, one of which was a triple.
Dario Borrero (First Base)
Colombia did not have a good tournament; they would finish with a 1-4 record in last place. One of the few bright spots was power-hitting first baseman Dario Borrero. Through five games, Borrero was a problem for opposing pitchers. He would slash .538/.571/1.000; he recorded seven hits in 13 at-bats, three being extra-base hits.
Brandon Leyton (Second Base)
Nicaragua featured a one-two punch on offense with MVP Emanuel Trujillo and second baseman Brandon Leyton. Leyton was also an extra-base hit machine, recording five doubles and two home runs. This resulted in a .333/.375/.700 slash line on his way to helping lead Nicaragua to a second-place finish.
Austin Dennis (Shortstop)
Shortstop Austin Dennis is the only player from the tournament-winning Panama side to make the All-Star team. Dennis was all over the bases through seven games, slashing .406/.444/.656. In those seven games, he recorded 13 hits, three doubles, one triple, and one home run. His RBI triple in the finals gave Panama the lead they would never lose, and they went on to win the tournament.
Yordany Alarcon (Third Base)
Yordany Alarcon was one of three Cuban hitters to hit a home run during the tournament as he would help his team reach the Semi-Finals. In six games, Alarcon would slash .368/.368/.579, recording seven hits and driving in six runs.
