Serie de Las Americas To Return in January; Nicaragua To Host Six-Team Event

The Asociación de Béisbol de las Américas announced the schedule for the 2025 Serie de Las Americas, which will be played from January 24-30 in Managua, Leon, and Masaya, Nicaragua.

Founded by the baseball governing bodies of Argentina, Colombia, Cuba, Curaçao, Nicaragua, and Panama, each of the six countries will send teams to play in the series, which will be held at three different stadiums around the country. Cuba is expected to send the most recent champion of the Serie Nacional, the Lenadores de Las Tunas, while Colombia, Curacao, Nicaragua, and Panama will send the champions of their respective winter leagues. Argentina will send the 2024 champion of its club league, the Liga Argentina de Beisbol, Club Daom.

Five of the six nations that founded ABAM have participated in either or both of the last two Caribbean Series, which is operated by the Confederaction de Beisbol Profesional del Caribe. Cuba, Colombia, Curacao, and Panama were the four invitees to the 2023 Caribbean Series in Caracas, Venezuela, while Curacao, Panama, and Nicaragua were invited to play in the 2024 Caribbean Series at loanDepot Park in Miami.

For 2025, none of the member countries of ABAM were invited to the Caribbean Series, which will be held in Mexicali, Mexico, with the CBPC choosing to invite the Japan Breeze, a Japanese barnstorming team based in Arizona.

“If any of the members of the Asociación de Béisbol de las Américas receive an invitation to the Caribbean Series, they will probably say yes, but this time it will be under new circumstances,” said, David Salayandia, the president of ABAM, when the series was announced.

But the vagaries of being an invitee — or not — every year while not being able to gain membership in the CBPC led the countries to start their own association.

“(We live) with the anxiety that this year they invite me (to the Caribbean Series) and next year they don’t,” Salayandia explained to el Diario, a Caracas, Venezuela-based paper.

Games will be played at the Estadio Nacional Soberania in Managua, as well as Estadio Roberto Clemente in Mayasa and Estadio Rigoberto Lopez Perez in Leon.

Group play will begin on January 24 and continue through January 29, with three games being played per day — two at Estadio Nacional Soberania in Managua, and one at either Estadio Roberto Clemente or Estadio Rigoberto Lopez Perez. The games at Estadio Nacional Soberania will start at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. local time, while the games in Mayasa and Leon will start at 6 p.m. local time.
