Game three of the Serie del Rey was suspended in the middle of the seventh inning due to rain Saturday night.
The game will be completed on Sunday, with the series again pushed back a day.
The Diablos Rojos lead the game 1-0, having scored the game’s only run so far in the top of the fifth. With runners at the corners and one out, Diosbel Arias grounded back to the mound, and when Monterrey pitcher Steven Tarpley threw to second base to try for the double play, Juan Carlos Gamboa scored from third when Monterrey couldn’t complete the twin killing.
Starter Trevor Bauer allowed four hits over six scoreless innings for Mexico City, striking out four and walking none.
For Monterrey, Tarpley allowed one run on four hits with eight strikeouts over seven full innings.
The game will resume Sunday, September 8 at 7 p.m. EDT at Estadio Exxon Mobil Super in Monterrey.
This is the second delay to the series. Game one of the 2024 Serie del Rey was postponed due to protests in the area of Mexico City’s Ciudad Deportiva as the federal legislature, which was meeting at the Sala de Armas near Estadio Alfredo Harp Helu, considered significant judicial reforms. The meeting drew extensive protests, making it difficult to access the stadium and forcing the entire series back a day.
