Shohei Ohtani has had a memorable season on the field, but now it will take to the skies. Japan Airlines’ new specially painted aircraft was designed by and features Ohtani. It is part of an effort to help kids in Japan pursue their dreams.

According to Japan Airlines, the “Dream Sho Jet” is an A350-900 aircraft that will be in commission until March 2026.

The aircraft symbolizes the “DREAM MILES PASS” project. Japan Airlines has launched this endeavor to lessen the burden of travel for Japanese youth looking to follow their dreams. The airline will give away 892,444 km in flights for children chasing their dreams. The distance represents how much Ohtani has traveled for baseball since his time at Hanamaki Higashi High School.

“In recent years, social issues surrounding the youth, such as ‘mobility inequality’ and ‘experience inequality,’ have been highlighted,” read Japan Airlines’ press release. “For example, the cost of travel for club activities can strain household finances, forcing students to quit their clubs, or the inability to afford travel and tuition fees for studying abroad can lead to giving up on such opportunities.”

Under the message “Give every dream a chance to take flight,” JAL will provide airline tickets from the departure points to the destinations of young people who need to travel to realize their dreams. Tickets will be provided based on an application process.

Those on the flights will receive exclusive cups and leaflets to commemorate the experience.
