Shohei Ohtani Featured in Ad with Babe Ruth

Shohei Ohtani has been must-see TV for MLB fans since the Japanese-born player made his MLB debut in 2018. Ohtani has continued his amazing start to his career with his best season at the plate to date.

Ohtani has often been compared to all-time great Babe Ruth. Dunlop has recently taken those comparisons to life. The company created a brilliant ad that showcases the two legends side by side. The ad depicts Ohtani and a Ruth impersonator sitting beside each other on a bench, watching young baseball players play and exchanging notes.

The ad gives fans a glimpse of what it may have looked like for the two-way stars to live simultaneously. As Shohei continues his chase for his third MVP, he has once again put himself in rarified air.

On Sunday, Ohtani went 1-3 with home run No. 30 on the season. He is now on pace for 40 in 2024, including a 180+ OPS+. Ohtani totaled 44 homers and a 185 OPS+ last season. Should he continue his impressive pace, he could become just the fifth player in the MLB season to accomplish two seasons straight of 40+ homers and a 180 OPS+ or higher. Barry Bonds, Jimmie Foxx, Lou Gehrig, and Babe Ruth are the other four who completed this feat—another example of why the comparison between Ruth and Ohtani is so accurate.
