Shohei Ohtani will be the first major star to build a house in a new high-end community in Hawaii.

Ohtani, two-way star for the Los Angeles Dodgers in Major League Baseball, is set to become the face of the newest luxury community in Hawaii.

The Hapuna Estates, a new gated community within the Mauna Kea Resort, located in Kohala on the Big Island of Hawaii, will be Ohtani’s new home. Ohtani’s oceanfront home, for which The Wall Street Journal reported he paid $17 million, will be the first house built in the luxurious new development.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the Ohtani home will have 5,000 square feet of living space on 1.1 acres and overlook the eighth hole of a golf course within the resort. The home is expected to serve as Ohtani’s offseason residence. Construction on the Estates is expected to begin this year.

The Wall Street Journal reported that the developers allowed Ohtani to choose his plot of land within the neighborhood, which spans 34 acres with 66 luxury houses. Lots in the Hapuna Estates are start at $4.9 million.

The 30-year-old is having a career year at the plate in his seventh MLB season. Ohtani is batting .302 with a National League leading 34 home runs and a 1.008 OPS. The four-time All-Star has his sights on another MVP Award with just over a month left in the regular season.
