Major League Baseball’s Players’ Weekend is returning soon for the first time since 2019, and one of the biggest stars in the league just announced what they’ll be wearing. While this upcoming Players’ Weekend on August 16-18 will not look like it once did, MLB players will still have fans a show.
Japanese two-way star Shohei Ohtani announced the cleats he will wear during this season’s Player’s Weekend. Over the weekend, the two-time MVP will wear cleats featuring his dog, Decoy.

Ohtani’s dog caught the attention of MLB fans when Ohtani revealed the dog’s name after he was seen during the MVP ceremony last season. The dog, named Dekopin, a Japanese name, has been by Ohtani’s side since the ceremony. The Dodgers will hold a bobblehead giveaway on August 28 featuring Ohtani wearing the Dodgers home uniform and holding decoy.
This Player’s Weekend, the league will not allow players to put their nicknames on the back of jerseys like in years past. This year, teams will wear special New Era hats with the players number on the side in a youthful design.

On top of the hats, players will be able to sport custom cleats, like Ohtani, and custom bats. The Dodgers and Ohtani will face off against the St. Louis Cardinals in a three-game series at Busch Stadium during Player’s Weekend.
