Shohei Ohtani’s Laundry List of Records and Firsts From Historic World Series Game 3

The Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the Toronto Blue Jays 6-5 in Game 3 of the World Series. Freddie Freeman delivered another signature moment with an 18th-inning home run, but Shohei Ohtani had another historic game.

Ohtani went 4-for-4 with two home runs and two doubles before the Blue Jays took the bat out of his hands. The team intentionally walked him four times, then walked him on four straight pitches in his final at-bat. The four intentional walks were the most in a postseason game.

Since 1955, when intentional walks became an official stat, only six players have been intentionally walked four times in a game: James Wood in 2025, Barry Bonds in 2004, Manny Ramírez in 2001, Andre Dawson in 1990, Garry Templeton in 1985, and Roger Maris in 1962.

In total, Ohtani reached base nine times. That is a postseason record and ties an all-time single-game record. The three other instances were Stan Hack in 1942, Johnny Burnett in 1932 and Max Carey in 1922. After gaps of 10 seasons between the first three instances, Ohtani has done it again after 83 years.

Ohtani did his damage before Jays skipper John Schneider decided to stop pitching to him. He hit a solo home run to put the Dodgers ahead 2-0 in the third inning and a game-tying solo home run in the seventh inning, giving him his third multi-home run game of the postseason. He became the first player in MLB history to have three multi-homer games in a single postseason.

Ohtani had a three-homer game against the Milwaukee Brewers in Game 4 of the National League Championship Series. He had a two-homer game against the Cincinnati Reds in Game 1 of the National League Wild Card.

Ohtani is scheduled to take the mound again in Game 3, but whether the Blue Jays actually pitch to him will be something to watch.
