Heading into the 2026 college baseball season, South Carolina left-handed pitcher Jake McCoy is ready for a breakout season.
In 2025 with the Gamecocks, McCoy had 77 strikeouts in 60 innings of work.
His best performance came against South Carolina’s rival, the Clemson Tigers. On March 1, the left-hander threw six innings, allowing just three hits and two runs. He also struck out 12 Clemson hitters.
This was one of seven appearances in 2025 in which McCoy had seven or more strikeouts.
McCoy and his Summer in the 2025 Cape Cod League, 2026 MLB Draft Stock
McCoy spent his summer playing for the Harwich Mariners in the Cape Cod League.
He made three starts and pitched 12 1/3 innings. Over that stretch, the southpaw had a 1.46 ERA and 25 strikeouts. He walked just three batters and allowed just two earned runs.
McCoy’s stretch of play in the Cape Cod League was one of the most impressive from any player.
The performance during the summer for the Harwich Mariners may have garnered McCoy some major draft stock.
According to MLB Pipeline, the left-hander is a top 65 2026 MLB Draft prospect. He is the Gamecocks’ lone representative on MLB Pipeline’s list. McCoy is also the third-highest ranked collegiate left-hander in the list behind Arkansas’ Hunter Dietz and Arizona State’s Cole Carlon.
