Sun Belt Star Kaleb Freeman Breaks Down Decision to Transfer to Texas

Sun Belt Newcomer of the Year and second-team All-Sun Belt player Kaleb Freeman announced that he will be transferring to Texas.

Why Texas?

The college baseball veteran spoke to World Baseball Network about why he made the decision to transfer to Texas for the 2026 college baseball season.

“It seemed like the best place where I could become the best person and the best baseball player,” Freeman said.

Big-Time Breakout Season with the Georgia State Panthers

In 2025, the Georgia State outfielder was the team leader in hitting. He had a .358 batting average, a .512 on-base percentage, 16 home runs, and 45 RBI.

Freeman talked about what was going right for him this season at Georgia State.

“With me being a big faith guy, God played a part in it,” he said. “It was also just being around people that I bond with and mesh with…They basically said, ‘This is you. So go show it and do it.’”

What Kind of Player are the Texas Longhorns Getting?

Freeman also dove into what kind of player the fans will be getting at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.

“They are going to get a guy that is going to leave it on the field every single day,” he said. “I used to play for the name on the back of the jersey. I think it is so much better when you play for the name on the front.”

The name on the front is the name of a team that just had a great first season in the SEC.

In 2025, the Texas Longhorns won the SEC regular season championship and made the NCAA Tournament as the number two overall national seed.

Head coach Jim Schlossnagle’s squad finished with an overall record of 44-14 and 22-8 in SEC play.

Loading up in the portal with guys like Kaleb Freeman, Texas is poised for a second SEC season that will be as good, if not even better.
