During the 2025 NCAA Tournament regionals, two starters from Florida schools had incredible pitching performances. Aidan King from the Florida Gators and Griffin Hugus from the Miami Hurricanes were both huge reasons for their teams’ wins this weekend.

Florida’s Aidan King Shuts Down Fairfield in the Conway Regional – On Saturday, May 31, Florida defeated Fairfield, 17-2, at the Conway regional to stay alive in the NCAA Tournament. Freshman right-hander Aidan King went eight innings and struck out seven hitters in the Stags’ lineup.

Fairfield struggled to find any offense against King as they could only muster four hits and drew just two walks.

The Stags scored just one run against King, which counted as an earned run against him.

This season, the freshman phenom has the best ERA on the Gators’ team at 2.58. He has seven runs this season with 79 strikeouts in 73 and 1/3 innings this year.

Miami’s Griffin Hugus Pitches a Complete Game Against Columbia in Hattiesburg Regional – Miami starting pitcher Griffin Hugus put the Hurricanes in a position to win the Hattiesburg regional with a complete game performance over the Columbia Lions. It led to a 14-1 victory for the ‘Canes.

In his nine full innings of work, the right-hander struck out nine Columbia batters while walking only one player and allowing just one earned run.

Hugus’ first season in Coral Gables has been a decent one as he has a team ERA of 3.90 in 16 starts. He also has 94 strikeouts in 90 total innings pitched.

The win allows Miami to compete for their first super regional appearance since 2016.
