This week, Monterey Peninsula College pitcher Fabio Bundi signed with the UCLA Bruins.
This is a historic moment. According to Jeff Duda, he will be the first-ever pitcher born and raised in Switzerland to compete at the Division One level.
At Monterey Peninsula College in 2025, Bundi had an 8-0 record and a 2.20 ERA in 13 starts. In 86 innings of work, he also had an astounding 101 strikeouts.
On April 5, he pitched a complete game against Gavilan College. In nine innings of work, Bundi had 13 strikeouts and allowed just five hits. He also allowed no runs, which led to a shutout 4-0 win for Monterey Peninsula.
Bundi had five or more strikeouts in 12 out of his 15 total appearances this past season.
Bundi will be headed to a team that just made a trip to the College World Series in 2025.
The Bruins had a 48-18 overall record and were 22-8 in conference play. It was UCLA’s first season in the Big Ten. They won a share of the conference’s regular season title along with the Oregon Ducks.
The Bruins nearly won the Big Ten Tournament at Charles Schwab Field in Omaha. However, they lost to the Nebraska Cornhuskers in the championship game.
UCLA went on to host a regional and super regional at Jackie Robinson Stadium during the 2025 NCAA Tournament.
They won five straight games during that stretch. In the Los Angeles regional, they defeated Fresno State, Arizona State, and UC Irvine.
In the Los Angeles super regional, they beat the UTSA Roadrunners twice to make it to the College World Series for the sixth time in program history.
