TCU Horned Frogs right-handed pitcher Tommy LaPour will miss his next scheduled start due to elbow soreness, according to TCU360’s Roderick Villareal.
His next scheduled start was against the UCLA Bruins in Los Angeles this Friday. The Bruins are the No. 1 team in the country, according to D1Baseball’s top 25 rankings.
The move to scratch LaPour from this weekend’s rotation was made with caution, as elbow soreness can potentially lead to Tommy John surgery.
LaPour was the preseason 2026 Big 12 Pitcher of the Year. His first start this season came during the Shriners Children’s College Showdown on opening day against the Vanderbilt Commodores.
LaPour pitched five innings and had five strikeouts. He allowed two earned runs in a 5-4 win for the Horned Frogs against Vanderbilt.
Left-handed pitcher Mason Brassfield will start against UCLA on Friday instead of LaPour, according to HornedFrogBlitz’s Jamie Plunkett.
LaPour and his 2025 season with TCU
In 2025, LaPour had a 3.09 ERA in 90 1/3 innings of work. Over that same stretch, he also had 88 strikeouts and picked up eight wins on the mound.
The right-hander was a National College Baseball Writers Association second-team All-American.
Heading into the 2026 season, LaPour had a good amount of draft stock. He is a top 65 2026 MLB Draft prospect, according to MLB Pipeline.
