The Tennessee Volunteers added two more players to their transfer portal class this week as former Duke pitcher Mark Hindy and former San Diego State infielder Finley Bates both committed to Tennessee.
Hindy and Bates at a Glance
Mark Hindy spent one season with the Duke Blue Devils after transferring from William & Mary.
This past season, the left-handed pitcher posted a 4.66 ERA over 29 innings, striking out 38 batters and holding opponents to a .224 batting average.
His top performance came against Clemson on May 9, when he struck out four and allowed no earned runs in 1 2/3 innings.
Finley Bates had a standout 2025 season at San Diego State as a sophomore.
He hit .300 with a .419 on-base percentage, drawing 40 walks and striking out just 30 times.
Bates also developed as a base stealer, swiping eight bases this season after recording none in 2024.
He earned the 2024 Mountain West Freshman of the Year award.
Bates is the son of former Major League infielder Jason Bates, who played for the Colorado Rockies from 1995 to 1998.
Where Does Tennessee’s Transfer Class Rank?
Before the commitments of Hindy and Bates, Tennessee’s 2025 transfer portal class already ranked among the nation’s best. According to 64 Analytics as of July 8, the Volunteers’ transfer class is ranked second nationally, trailing only Mississippi State.
After missing the College World Series in 2025, head coach Tony Vitello is focused on bringing top talent to Knoxville with the goal of returning to Omaha in 2026.
