On Monday, the Tennessee Volunteers landed a commitment from left-handed pitcher Cooper Burti. The 2027 pitching prospect is the number one ranked southpaw in the class from the state of New Jersey.
Burti also takes at-bats in a two-way role for his high school team, the Cherokee Chiefs. This past high school season, he led his team in home runs.
The New Jersey prospect is the latest member of a loaded 2027 high school class for the Tennessee Volunteers.
According to Perfect Game, Tennessee’s 2027 class is a top ten class in the country. This class includes not only Burti, but also fellow high school players Sebastian “Sushi” Wilson and Max Hemenway, who are also committed to Tennessee.
Hemenway is ranked seventh overall in the 2027 class. Wilson was formerly a top ten player in the 2027 class.
The Volunteers are also one of five teams to have multiple Perfect Game top 100 players committed to them. The other four schools that fit that category are Texas, LSU, TCU, and Florida.
Burti is the latest player to be a part of Tennessee head coach Tony Vitello’s recruiting spurt.
According to Perfect Game, the Volunteers have the third-best high school class in the 2025 cycle.
Tennessee’s 2026 high school recruiting class ranks number one in the country and contains ten top 100 recruits.
